For she’s a jolly good fellow.

Today is one of my colleagues birthday and since I’m still working on my “Pinterest recipe” list, I thought this would be the perfect opportunite for one more pinterestic cake!

Orange & Poppy Seed Cake

¼ cup (55 g) black poppy seeds
¾ cup (170 g) milk
200 grams unsalted butter, softened
1 orange rind, zested with a microplane
½ tsp vanilla bean paste
½ cup (110 g) orange juice
¾ cup (170 g) sugar
3 eggs
2 cups (450 g) flour
1 ½ tsp baking powder

250 grams cream cheese, softened
¼ cup (55 g)  unsalted butter, softened
½ tsp vanilla bean paste
1½ – 2 cups (400-450 g) powdered sugar
  (taste for sweetness)
1 tbs orange rind
This is an american recipe I got from Pinterest, linked to Megans Kitchen. It might by that the colors of the poppy seeds are different in other countries. I found mine in a big super market but they were blue instead of black. White was also available. I wonder what the difference is.. But I read online that black and blue poppy seeds are basically the same thing. At least it didn’t kill anyone and that’s all what matters to me! Happy baking :)

    • You haven’t we have them on bread and everything. In Germany too. I don’t really know how to describe the flavor; it’s not super strong but it has it’s one special taste to it :)
