The horses of Menorca.

I just got back from my vacation in Menorca and I have some pictures to share :)

One day we spent in the little town Ferreries where they were celebrating the annual summer-horse-party, called Sant Bartomeu. They are apparently breeding their own horses on Menorca, which they then train and ride through the streets of the biggest towns of the islands.

A marching band is playing and everyone is on the streets waiting for the horses. Because the purpose seems to be to touch a mirror that is attached in the chest/belly of the horse in order to receive endless luck. So that everyone can have a try for their luck, the riders are getting the horses on their back hooves as long as possible. You have to be quite lucky from the beginning I guess. I was terrified!
